The city of Ghent offers a chance to sample Flemish culture at its authentic best. The historically inclined will enjoy Ghent’s medieval landmarks, including Gravensteen (‘Castle of the Counts’); Toreken, the impressive gothic tower in the city centre; and Saint Bavo Cathedral.
Don't spend all your money on admission fees, though; this town caters to pedestrian wanderers like few other places in Europe. It houses one of the world’s largest auto-free zones, and the gilded architecture lining the Graslei canal area can be enjoyed day or night. Once you've finished wandering, stop into the Patershol district to sample some of Belgium's legendary beers.

With two railway stations in the city and the international ‘Brussels Airport’(Zaventem) less than an hour’s drive away, arrival by train or plane arecertainly easy options.
